A sustainability charter is the translation of an important vision for the implementation of a sustainability initiative or program.
The charter often serves as a constitution for the enterprise and its contents are usually included in the executive summary of the business plan.
It provides a framework for identifying trends of interest, drawing up strategic plans, making decisions and actionable planning.
The Charter may also include a statement … For the vision, mission and added values All of which give a practical character to the organization’s actions to achieve its goals.
It can also identify the elements of the quadripartite matrix for sustainability in terms of community culture, environmental scope, technological development, and finally economic objectives.
The charter helpsorganizations know where they are and where they want to be.
It also helps them develop the strategic plans to get to where they want to go.
The charter should specify how the institutional system works, including the principles of operation and whatever the functions and organizational structure.
It is also calculated that the charter should ideally be concise and not more than one page.
The Charter helps the organization achieve its objectives by providing an ethical framework for strategic decision-making.
The Charter also maintains the focus of leadership and gives a good understanding of what the Organization is trying to achieve and why.

A good charter promotes a common vision within the organization While the statement of vision, mission and added values is usually done at the board level, participation in charter development should also be encouraged at all levels and all departments.
