The Ministry of Environment organizes a workshop on “the Overall Framework for the National Climate Change Strategy 2050” in cooperation
Dr. Yasmine Fouad: We are working on coordinating and providing technical support to all line ministries and relevant authorities on the issue of climate change.
Within the framework of the directives of Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, and the efforts of the Ministry of Environment in dealing with the issue of climate change, the Ministry of Environment organized a workshop entitled “The Overall Framework for the National Climate Change Strategy 2050”, in cooperation with the Egyptian-German Joint Committee on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection (JCEE)., under the supervision of Engineer Sharif Abdel Rahim, Head of the Central Department for Climate Change and National Coordinator for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and with the participation of many relevant authorities from the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Water Resources and Irrigation, Finance and other ministries, as well as a number of research bodies such as the National Research Center and the Meteorological Authority.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, explained that the implementation of this workshop comes in response to the decision of His Excellency the Prime Minister to adopt the National Climate Change Strategy 2050 issued in May 2022, which stipulated in its second article that all ministries and relevant authorities are obligated to prepare executive plans for the national climate change strategy, and based on the requests received from a number of ministries and authorities to The Ministry of Environment, emphasized the importance of collaboration and technical assistance for climate change initiatives.
The Minister of Environment added that during the workshop, the role of each ministry in preparing the overall framework for the executive plan for the climate change strategy and implementing and achieving the objectives contained therein was discussed.
It is worth noting that this workshop is one of the first pillar that will be followed by series of workshops and training programs planned to be organized over the coming period, in order to support the ministries and relevant authorities in Egypt, through the Climate Change Units existing in the various ministries.
