CIB System at Ecomondo 2026: Building Partnerships to Boost Agricultural Biogas and Biomethane
Ecomondo 2026 Highlights Biomethane's Role in European Energy Security
Rimini, Italy: Mohamed Hassan
The Italian Biogas Consortium (CIB) is participating in Ecomondo 2026, taking place in Rimini, Italy, from November 3 to 6, with a programme focused on strengthening connections between agriculture, industry, research and institutions to support the growth of the agricultural energy value chain.
Under the theme “CIB System”, the consortium is presenting an open and dynamic agricultural energy model designed to connect farming businesses, industrial companies, research organisations, public institutions and local communities.

The initiative aims to turn these connections into opportunities for collaboration, innovation and economic growth, highlighting the role of integrated agricultural energy systems.
At the heart of this approach is the “Biogasfattobene” model, which combines food production, renewable energy generation and the recovery and valorisation of digestate to create additional value for agricultural businesses and local communities.

Three Key Events on Agricultural Energy
During the exhibition, CIB will host a series of meetings and discussions at the Forum Area, Hall D5, Stand 314, with three main events addressing the future of agricultural biorefineries, European energy security and the development of the biomethane market.
The first event will take place on Tuesday, November 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. The conference, titled “The Farm of the Future: A Biorefinery Generating Collective Value”, is being organised in cooperation with Ecomondo’s Technical and Scientific Committee.

It will examine how farms can evolve towards integrated business models combining agricultural production, biomethane generation and nutrient recovery, with contributions from research organisations, agricultural associations and public institutions.
On Wednesday, November 4, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., CIB and the European Biogas Association (EBA) will organise an international discussion titled “Shaping EU Energy Security Through Biomethane”.
The session will explore the contribution of biomethane to European energy security and examine the sector’s development prospects.

The third event is scheduled for Thursday, November 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Organised in cooperation with CIB Service, the conference is titled “Agricultural Biogas and Biomethane: Technical and Regulatory Requirements for Matching Supply and Demand”.
Discussions will focus on the technical and regulatory conditions needed to support market development and strengthen connections between biomethane producers and end users.
Strengthening Connections Across Agriculture and Energy
Piero Gattoni, President of the Italian Biogas Consortium, said the CIB System initiative aims to showcase a value chain whose strength has been built through connections between different skills, experiences and stakeholders.
He explained that agricultural biogas and biomethane are the result of an integrated model combining agriculture, energy production, research and innovation.
Gattoni stressed that continued sector growth requires stronger dialogue between businesses, industry and public institutions.

He added that the consortium’s role is to facilitate these connections and support companies in accessing new opportunities, while unlocking the potential of agricultural energy to improve the competitiveness of farming businesses, strengthen national energy security and promote local development.
CIB’s participation in Ecomondo 2026 highlights the importance of integrated approaches linking agricultural production with renewable energy and resource recovery, positioning the agricultural sector as a contributor to the transition towards more efficient and sustainable economic models.
