“The first open dialogue on climate change in the New Valley”

On Wednesday, 7/10/2024 AD, at 8 PM in the conference hall, the open dialogue on climate change… challenges and solutions in the New Valley Governorate took place.

Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and we are now facing a defining moment.

The global impacts of climate change are wide-ranging and unprecedented in scale, from changing weather patterns that threaten food productions to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic floods.

Adapting to these impacts will be more difficult and costly in the future if drastic action is not taken now.

This helps open dialogue on climate action and sustainable development in building capacities, developing skills, and recognizing, learning, and practicing what we have learned, in order to bring about change on the personal and collective levels.

With the aim of building capabilities and developing skills through a series of purposeful dialogue meetings and training workshops.

The meetings provide knowledge and information about environmental issues, especially climate change, and help develop skills through practical applications.

With the aim of making a positive impact on the environment and achieving sustainable development and food security.

By providing knowledge, skills, and practical applications, everyone becomes active agents of effective change in our societies.

Through partnerships with local organizations and research and academic institutions, His Excellency indicated that the scope of meetings can be expanded and repeated in other communities and locations to enhance the culture of environmental responsibility and achieve sustainability.

Dialogues also help the target group to discover and learn about their abilities and skills hidden within them, and to see everything around them differently, and it brings them the joy of practice, the joy of knowledge, the feeling of change, participation in making change, and contributing to improving the current situation on the personal or collective level, and for everyone to become a participating and effective element in development. Society and achieving sustainable development.

All dialogues on “Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate-Related Extremes and Disasters” combine investment in continuous learning among implementing partners to produce stories and case studies on the one hand and a realistic assessment approach on the other.

The dialogue seeks to explore and build resilience?

The meeting discussed a number of topics, the most important of which are:

* Climate change
* Global warming and its gases (GHGs).
* Climate action and sustainable development
* Environmental footprint
* Carbon footprint
* Water footprint
* Climate change and food security
* Efficient use and reuse of resources.

At the end of the dialogue, it was emphasized to adopt capacity building to build Climate Champions from the people of the oasis and the governorate who can confront and interact with climate challenges and promote sustainable development on all the land of the governorate with the help of its people, and also the necessity of activating a permanent environmental forum hosted by the library with the participation of all those interested in climate action and environmental development.
