It also reviews the efforts of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, as the national academy and the main government supporter of research and innovation, and its role in formulating policy papers and promoting research, innovation and green entrepreneurship.

The bulletin presents the most important news related to the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, “COP 27”, where Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin outlines five priorities for climate action, at the official opening of African Climate Week 2022, and calls for a new measure of climate finance.

The issue also included good coverage of the activities of the first forum of Egyptian government universities to confront climate change, which was hosted by Suez University in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour and Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, United Nations High-Level Champion on Climate Change.

The Minister acknowledged the important role that Egyptian universities play in supporting Egypt’s efforts to combat climate change by providing innovative and technological solutions, education, awareness, youth engagement, and citizen-based science.

In his speech, Mohieldin highlighted that a holistic approach is necessary to confront climate change.

The Bulletin shows how the British University in Egypt, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, is working to bring together students and youth from around the world and promote youth-led global dialogue on international climate action under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports and Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin.

The bulletin also indicated that Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Regional Action Organization for Climate Change in Japan, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research for Arid Lands at Ain Shams University, and Nizami Kanjavi International, organized and hosted a mixed webinar on the impact of climate change on food production in dry areas.

Conference on health, food and climate change policy

The bulletin covered the latest activities of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in the areas of climate change by organizing a policy conference on “Healthy Food and Climate Change”, in partnership with the British Council and the British Universities Climate Network.

The Conference on Health, Food and Climate Change Policies was held on Wednesday 28th September 2022 at Prince Muhammad Ali Palace. During the conference, scientists and researchers discussed two policy papers that were produced in cooperation between the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and British scientists to be presented at the upcoming COP27 climate conference.

The hybrid conference, in which English scientists participated online, brought together Egyptian scientists passionate about climate science, policy makers and those who wish to participate and recognize the unique partnership between the UK and Egypt and the joint journey from COP26 to COP27.

The conference aimed to review the health policy paper, and the food and agricultural policy paper, in addition to presenting solutions and making recommendations to policy makers and promoting knowledge exchange and discussion on policy papers before they are announced to the global scientific research community at the COP27 climate summit.
