Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt and UN Special Envoy on Financing 2030 Sustainable Development , praised the launch of the Food and Agriculture initiative for sustainable transformation “FAST” as well as the agricultural innovation initiative for Climate, noting that the COP27 is the summit of implementation and partnerships, which contributes to achieving food security and developing the agricultural sector, given the substantive link between climate action and food security.
His remarks came during his speech at a session on the Agricultural Innovation Initiative for Climate, within the framework of the activities of the Agriculture and Food Day at COP27, in the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, AlSayed Al-Qusair and Mr. Thomas Vilsack, Minister of Agriculture of the United States of America, and Ms.

Maryam Al-Muhairi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment in the UAE, and a number of Experts and representatives of the relevant international bodies.

In his speech, the climate champion pointed to the importance of providing appropriate financing to address the food gap, taking into account the need to reduce emissions from the agricultural sector by supporting the resilience measures in this sector.
Mohieldin warned that if the necessary measures are not taken, this will exacerbate the crisis.
On the other hand, Mohieldin explained that the initiatives launched today focus on science and research, stressing the need to rely on science and funding to support resilience in the agricultural sector and empower farmers.

In another context, Mohieldin indicated that Sharm El-Sheikh Adaptation Initiative, launched by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, gives great priority to the food security file in a regional framework that contributes to attracting more investments in nature, water and other vital sectors. He also noted that these initiatives also come in line with the goals of the Climate champions and the Marrakesh Partnership.
